T-SAT

As envisioned, the T-Sat system would incorporate laser-optical telecommunications payloads to dramatically increase the bandwidth available to U.S. forces. The Space Based Radar would track moving ground targets worldwide 24 hours a day, regardless of weather conditions.
The Air Force had hoped to start launching the Space Based Radar satellites around 2012.

A visual image that would take 2 minutes to process with the Milstar II satellite system would take less than a second with TSAT. A radar image from a Global Hawk UAV, or a multi-gigabyte radar image from space-based radar, would take 12 and 88 minutes, respectively, to process in current networks, and less than a second with the TSAT network.

The system ultimately will replace the Milstar and Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) programs and provide the Global Information Grid network extension to mobile warfighters; sensors; weapons; and communications, command and control nodes located on UAVs, piloted aircraft, on the ground, in the air, at sea or in space
